Thursday's Best Bets: King's can be on Song at Punchestown

Tippin’ Jimmy talks us through his selections from Punchestown, Uttoxeter and Newcastle.

2:05 Punchestown – Samcro (1/5)

This is a special horse and I wouldn’t be the only person shocked if he gets beat this afternoon. He’s won four from four including picking up a listed prize at Navan back in December. He’s always been a horse for hurdles, and with such high expectations from  Gordon Elliott he should be winning this easily. Rubbish price, but worth adding to an accumulator.

2:35 Punchestown – Big Ben (15/2)

Joseph O’Brien’s Big Ben is a horse that has been a bit disappointing since joining from Ballydoyle, and deserves to strike now in handicap company. He has a very nice mark of 110, and has ran okay when well fancied in maiden hurdle events throughout the summer. His problem is that he finds one or two too good, and was very poor at Leopardstown last time out when a lengthy third. Hopefully this ground and handicapping will bring the best out of him.

3:40 Punchestown – Death Duty (4/7)

Death Duty is another really exciting horse on the card, and although not the best of prices should be added to your accas. Gordon Elliott thinks the world of him, and really fancied him to win at last year’s Cheltenham Festival. He didn’t travel over great and has always been the type to improve when going chasing. He won his debut over fences really well, and should follow up here.

4:45 Punchestown – King’s Song (4/1)

Another I imagine to run well for Gordon Elliott is King’s Song who goes in the handicap event. He’s no Cheltenham Festival contender right now in his career, but his trainer certainly brings out the best in horses and that will be the case for this former David Dennis trained seven-year-old. He looks to have a nice low weight and was a good winner at Southwell on his penultimate start.

5:00 Uttoxeter – Bambi Du Noyer (5/4)

Bambi Du Noyer was a really easy winner at Exeter seven days ago, and goes off the same mark of 101 here. He won with plenty left in the tank, and providing the run hasn’t come too soon he should be up to striking again for David Pipe and Tom Scudamore.

6:15 Newcastle – Enzo’s Lad (3/1)

It’s hard not to be impressed by Karl Burke’s exceptional season with two-year-olds this year, and hopefully Enzo’s Lad can provide a profitable stake today. He is pretty nicely bred, and made an encouraging debut when sixth at Kempton. That was a strong race, and he should improve significantly for the run.
