Thursday's Best Bets: I'm Envisaging a profitable day

Tippin’ Jimmy has his say on Thursday’s racing, after tipping two winners at Worcester last night.

1:20 Chelmsford – Kind Act (5/2)

One trainer whose horses are very much in form at the minute is Charlie Appleby, and his smart looking two-year-old Kind Act should run well here. He was sent off favourite in a competitive Newmarket contest last time out, but was a bit green in the race and may have needed the run. He is clearly much better than his fifth place effort suggests, and he should enjoy the all-weather track.

1:40 Bath – Dream Prospect (11/2)

A nicely bred two-year-old for Roger Charlton who deserves to get his head in front is Dream Prospect. He’s run well on three starts, and was last seen a month ago finishing third at Windsor. He will win races in his career, and this test looks ideal for him. He should run a big race.

5:30 Sedgefield – Capsy De Mee (15/8)

Capsy De Mee comes to the North East with an exceptional profile, and he should be up to winning a handicap event. He was a Grade Three winner back in France a while back, and has only four starts for Jamie Snowden. Coming back from a break he finished second to an odds-on favourite, and ran very well. He should improve a lot for that run, and remains unaltered by the handicapper.

6:25 Tipperary – Sizzling (4/5)
I would be very surprised if Sizzling doesn’t break her maiden here, but I thought that last time too. Aidan O’Brien’s juvenile has enjoyed three placed efforts at this level, running well but just finding one or two a bit tricky to beat. She’s got a good bit of improvement in her, and she doesn’t have to do too much to win this.

8:10 Wolverhampton - Envisaging (10/3)

I have been watching James Fanshawe’s Envisaging for a short while now, and I am quietly confident he will be up to winning today. He ran a fantastic race last time out, finishing third against some nice progressive types at Kempton. That form sets a pretty high standard here, and his handicap mark hasn’t been adjusted for that run. He’ll win off this mark soon enough.

Wednesday's Best Bets: Turk can Turn your day into a winning one

After two wins from three tips yesterday, Tippin' Jimmy talks us through his selections on Wednesday's racing.

2:00 Musselburgh - Vj Day (9/2)
Earlier in the year Kevin Ryan told me he had very high hopes for Vj Day this season. He hasn't lived up to that promise in two starts since. Out of a Group One winning dam, he finished fifth on debut and sixth next time out. There's loads more to come, and he will win races. This is a decent maiden, but he could be worth a bet.

2:20 Catterick - Fairy Lights (11/4)
Although running very poorly on his last two starts, Fairy Lights should have a race in him and this looks an ideal opportunity. On his debut he looked like a good horse in the making, finishing under a length behind a victory. He needs to improve a lot here, but has the scope to do so.

6:35 Worcester - Keating (9/2)
David Pipe and Tom Scuadmore team up with Keating, my strongest fancy of the day. He cost a fair amount back in the sales ring in May, and finished off the season running well. The five-year-old made a promising seasonal bow when fourth at Newton Abbot, and wasn't beaten too far. He's been dropped 2lb since. Today his mark is appealing. Shanksforamillion is my worry.

7:05 Worcester - Horseshoe Bay (8/11)
I'm sure there is a lot of people excited to see this horse make his hurdling debut at Worcester. He was a brilliant horse on the flat winning a maiden by seven lengths, and running okay in the Group Three Bahrain Trophy. There is more to come, and if he takes to hurdling he should have a bold chance.

7:35 Worcester - Turn Turk (9/4)
Turn Turk is a horse who will win races this season. She's won two races, and finished second twice. Last time out she was defeated by a decent Paul Nicholls type and today's test doesn't seem as competitive for him. She's got plenty of good results ahead.

Tuesday's Best Bets: Global can break his maiden in Style

Tippin' Jimmy is hoping for a few Birthday winners. He has three selections across Tuesday's card.

2:15 Ripon - Revived (6/4)
I have been watching the form of the Glorious Goodwood maidens every day, and this horse is just another example of one who should be up to winning at this level. The horrible ground would've made it very tough for him, and a fifth place finish showed promising signs. He'll improve from the effort, is bred well, and can have enough to win this.

2:35 Epsom - Global Style (5/1)
Ed Dunlop's two-year-old Global Style is one of the best bred in the field, and could be worth backing on his second start. He made a decent debut, finishing eighth at Newmarket. He should improve a lot from that outing, and he has lots of potential to go forward this season.

6:15 Carlisle - Sea Tide
Hugo Palmer's Sea Tide has a habit of bumping into some good horses, and today I will believe he will break his maiden on the fifth time of asking. He has been a consistent type, placing either second or third in every start. This doesn't look the most competitive race, and he should be up to the task.

Monday's Best Bet: High ready to strike at the End

2:50 Chepstow - Tanasoq (10/3)
I like Owen Burrows' handicapper Tanasoq in this contest. He has been running well off this mark throughout the season, and has been dropped a 1lb for his most recent Lingfield third. His runs has been consistent, and it's only a matter of time before he wins one. Today's test looks ideal, and he should go well coming back from a break.

4:25 Roscommon - Himmah (2/1) NAP
This horse has gone so close to breaking his maiden, but has just kept finding good ones time after time. Today may be his chance. He ran well last time out when second to a top filly Ball Girl, and he's finished second at maiden level for the last three starts. Today should be straightforward.

4:55 Epsom - High End (7/4)
High End can extend his unbeaten record at Epsom today. He won narrowly on debut, but looked even more impressive when striking at Wolverhampton last time out. He transfers after two runs on the all-weather but should like Epsom. He's got lots of potential, he should be up to winning this contest.

Sunday Best Bets: Robin to fly to glory for Christopher

After a brilliant day of selections yesterday, Tippin' Jimmy runs us through Sunday's racecard.

1:30 Curragh - Christopher Robin (5/6) NAP
Ryan Moore travels back from America to ride this horse, fully expecting a strong performance. Ballydoyle have a prolific record of horses winning second time out, and this nicely bred two-year-old sets a high standard. The son of Camelot made an encouraging debut when second to a more experienced stable rival in Nelson. He should go better today.

2:55 Yarmouth - Ganayem (7/2)
One of the nicest horses in training in the UK is Owen Burrows' Ganayem. He has yet to see a racecourse, and takes on some more experienced rivals today.  But the son of Frankel has some very good siblings, and should have the talent to win at this level.

3:55 Goodwood - Stanley (5/1)
Stanley is on a falling mark, and after his latest drop of a 1lb should have a good chance. He was third in this last year, and seems to be in good form since. He's finished second on his last two starts, but can go one better today.

Ebor Festival Day Four: Flames to burn up on the Knavesmire

Following our 9-1 winner yesterday, Tippin' Jimmy returns with his verdict on Saturday's action at York.

York

1:55 - Mustashry (3/1) , Make Time (13/2) ew

Stepping up from handicap company to Group Three is never an easy thing to do, but I do think this rapidly improving Sir Michael Stoute horse will take it in his stride. He carried top weight to glory at Chelmsford and was visually very impressive winning on the all-weather. This is much harder, but he will like the ground, is continually getting better and can be a big danger.

David Menuisier's Make Time is another horse I have plenty of time for. He was a possible Guineas horse before a set-back and should go well following his Goodwood second last time out.

2:25 - The Grand Visir (12/1) , Secret Advisor (9/1) ew

William Haggas and Daniel Tudhope team up with The Grand Visir, a promising son of Frankel. He ran very well in a strong handicap at Newbury, but always looked like this longer trip would suit. He won when last seen, and seems to be improving well. If he can continue his progression he will be competitive here.

Secret Advisor sets a strong standard on the form of his Queen's Vase third. Charlie Appleby's three-year-old was disappointing at Goodwood last time out, but should benefit from the return to this trip.

3:00 - Nebo (5/1)

Charlie Hills' Nebo could finally get his head in front after some promising efforts at this level. His runner-up efforts at Newmarket and Goodwood set a high standard, and although on differing ground he goes on anything. He is improving, and deserves to win a pattern contest.

Dubka won four races on the trot last season, and is our big fancy for the Ebor

3:35 - Dubka (12/1)

It has been no less than 21 years since Sir Michael Stoute has won the Ebor, and he is very strongly represented with Dubka. She showed how much better she was over this longer trip when a close second at Group Three level, beaten by a neck by a very good mare in Endless Time. That form sets a very high standard, and she is weighted well.

4:10 - Out In The Flames (8/1)

Richard Hannon's two-year-old is on a revival mission in what looks a competitive listed contest on the Knavesmire. Her Royal Ascot third works out very strong, but her last two runs have been a tad disappointing. She needs more but she has got talent, and if she brings her very best to York she could have a say.

4:40 - UAE Prince (10/3) , Brorocco (14/1) ew

I was frustrated to see this horse lose at Glorious Goodwood, as it ran on so quickly just found more traffic than a commuter on the M25 at rush hour. Today he can certainly make amends for that fourth place efforts. He will like the conditions, and the handicapper hasn't moved his mark since that effort. He can go close here. 

I keep banging on about Brorocco, and I think he's got a big win in him soon. He is running well without winning at the moment, and he chased home a good horse in Godolphin's Game Starter last time out. His mark of 89 is very handy.

5:15 - Copper Knight (8/1) , Pennsylvania Dutch (9/1) ew

Copper Knight is a lovely front-running horse, who I think may just see them all off today. He carries top weight but has gone down a 1lb for his decent fourth place effort at Ascot last time out. This looks a good race, on a flat track with good ground. Adam McNamara is a talented jockey, and he can ride him close to winning.

I spoke to William Haggas about Pennsylvania Dutch before his Leicester run, and he was always quite confident with the horse. He finished a creditable third that day, beaten by two horses that connections expected to run well. A drop to five is an unknown, but may bring out the best in him. He's certainly a horse with a future, and can be dangerous on this weight.

3:15 Newmarket - Black Bolt (10/1)

Richard Hannon had a nice 10/1 winner tipped by us last week, Black Bolt may follow that pattern. He was an encouraging winner at Kempton in November, but was very disappointing at Newbury last time out. He should be better for the run, and could run well in this good handicap.

3:55 Goodwood - Count Octave (11/4)

I am a big fan of this horse and I think he could even be a big contender for next month's St Leger. He's still progressing and was last seen finishing a very close second at Royal Ascot. This is a step down in grade, and he should go well against this field. 

4:15 Chester - Sun Lover (4/1)

A big win is only a matter of time for Roger Varian's Sun Lover. He has finished second on both starts this season, and remains unchanged by the handicapper for his narrow defeat at Doncaster last time out. He'll sit behind the leaders so Chester should suit him.

4:25 Newmarket - Gifted Master (9/2)

Another of my antepost selections is Gifted Master, so today is a bit of a big day! He was a very encouraging winner of a conditions race last time out, and his trainer thinks he is a top horse. If he is going to compete in those top races, then he should go close. I fully expect him to do so.

5:10 Windsor - Lamya (11/8)

My NAP of the day is Lamya in the opening race at Windsor. He is nicely bred, and reports from home are very encouraging. He finished sixth on his debut, and will come on a lot from that run. A horse with a future, he should be up to winning this maiden.

7:40 Windsor - Love Conquers (15/8)

This horse has been pulled-out on a few occasions, but today he should finally run. I like this horse, he is bred well and ran very strongly at Newbury last time out. He didn't lose by very much, and I would expect him to come out on top in this weak contest.

1:55 - Appeared (17/2) , Londonium (15/2)

One horse who deserves to win a big handicap is Appeared for Roger Varian. He won really well at the start of the season at Ascot, before finishing second at the Royal meeting to Rare Rhythm. That form has been boosted with the Godolphin horse landing listed honours since. Last time out Appeared was badly handled, and wasn't at best with the ground. He can make amends today, even with a bad draw.

Londinium is a big each-way chance for Mark Johnston. He won impressively at Glorious Goodwood, before returning to finish second only two days later. He's had a break, has a low riding weight and can go very well again.

2:25 - Dal Harralid (7/2)

In an open race, I think Dal Harralid may be the best bet for the Lonsdale. He won very well in listed company over 1m6f, and he looked like a horse capable in this level. Last time out he stepped back to a mile and a half, and in a competitive Royal Ascot Group Two it was a bit of an impossible mission. He finished a creditable sixth. Today's assignment is more suitable and he can go well.

3:00 - Daban (6/1) , Talaayeb ew(10/1) 

Daban brings the very best form on the table in this Group Three event, her 1000 Guineas third puts her in with a big shout here. She hasn't been seen since running in what was a very good Jersey Stakes, finishing sixth. That form is still strong, but the worry is she hasn't raced since June. Hopefully John Gosden will have her spot on to return to winning ways.

Talaayeb is another boasting strong form for Owen Burrows. She won a maiden, before finishing fourth in the 1000 Guineas in only her second start. Last time out she was disappointing in listed company, but she is still progressing and deserves her place here.

Lady Aurelia makes her first start since winning well at Royal Ascot

3:35 - Lady Aurelia (7/4)

I love Lady Aurelia and think she is an absolutely sensational filly. She won at Royal Ascot in tremendous style, and it was one of the best King's Stand winner I can remember. Battash is the danger, but I am more concerned about the ground. She will want it going quick, but she may struggle to get optimum conditions. This looks a great race in the making, hopefully she comes out on top.

4:15 - Gabr (4/1)

This is a very competitve maiden contest, and it will be interesting to see how the form works out in the future. I'm siding with Gabr for Sir Michael Stoute and Jim Crowley. He ran an exceptional race on debut, finishing second by a small margins. He lost a lot of lengths at the start of the race and ran on well, he's a maiden winner in waiting.

4:50 - Syphax (9/1)

Kevin Ryan has got a lot of time for this horse, and he just hasn't quite shown his best this season. He was a Group Three winner at this meeting last year, and has run okay so far this season. He drops down into handicap company and if he can find his very best, then he should be able to run well at a big price.

The Irish town of Killarney holds it's annual racing festival this week.

5:40 Killarney - Bella Estrella (6/4)

I am in Killarney this afternoon, and have a few fancies across the time. This is a nicely bred horse for Dermot Weld, who won on his only visit to the racecourse. That victory was very encouraging, and he picked up really quickly. His opening mark is on the high side, but he should still be too good in this handicap.

6:10 Killarney - Alaykha (7/2)

Another for top Irish trainer Dermot Weld is Alaykha, who ran okay in a hot maiden last time out. He finished fourth, behind She's So Flawless, Abyssinian and Airlie Beach. That form is very strong, and today's Killarney test looks a lot less competitve for Weld's three-year-old. There are some good rivals, but I expect him to go very well.

7:10 Killarney - Brutal (11/10)

I know Gordon Elliott has a lot of time for this horse, who turned his very good flat form into winning hurdling form. He won his hurdles debut quite well, and although this is much more competitive he should have a strong chance again. His trainer likes him a lot and believes he is only going to improve.

7:40 Killarney - Timiyan (13/2)

I know this another Gordon Elliott horse, that he likes an awful lot. He was progressing really well, and was quite well-fancied in the Galway Hurdle but struggled when only beating six rivals. He won his two starts before that very well, he's only getting better at the moment and can bounce back in this competitive event today.

1:55 - Great Prospector (7/2) , Guzman (33/1) ew
Richard Fahey's two-year-old sets a very high form standard in the opener here. He won his maiden in good style, before finishing third in a competitive Group Two contest at Newmarket last time out. He wasn't beaten too far that day, and steps back in class. If he can be as effective over this shorter trip he should run a strong race.

Fahey's other runner Guzman could also go well. He's won twice in his career, both narrowly, but last time out he was a touch disappointing when fifth at Newmarket. He should perform better today.

2:25 - Actress (4/1)
Ballydoyle will get winners this week, and Actress may be one of them. It was surprising to her take on the boys in the Phoenix Stakes last time out and she seemed to run pretty well there. She steps down into a Group Two, and against fillies, so that form may be quite strong here.

3:00 - Chelsea Lad (7/1)
I have been keeping a close eye on Chelsea Lad for a while, knowing there is a big handicap in him. He was second in a handicap here back in May, beaten by Here Comes When who has since landed Group One glory. He has struggled a little since and could only finish third at Windsor last time. He should like the track and conditions and can go well.

Frankie Dettori will ride Enable, whose searching for their fourth Group One prize

3:35 - Enable (3/10)
It is extremely difficult to see past the great Enable here. She was sensational when winning the King George and should follow up today. She's a brilliant horse, and will take all the beating here.

4:15 - Mori (5/6)
I've got a suspicion that Ryan Moore will be quite happy to be riding Mori for Sir Michael Stoute. She won two times before finishing a very close second in the Ribblesdale at Royal Ascot, and steps back down to listed company. I think she's much better than this level, and can show it here.

4:50 - Ghadaayer (11/1)
Another one in with a chance for Sir Michael Stoute is Ghadaayer who carries a low weight in this competitive looking handicap. She won quite well at Newmarket on her penultimate start before running strongly at Glorious Goodwood when fourth. Today's conditions should suit and she should run well.

4:30 Killarney - Andesh (8/13)

I would be very suprised if this horse doesn't break his maiden today. Mick Halford's two-year-old made a fantastic debut when a length second to a top horse in Mendelssohn and should run well again. He'll improve from that run and I would expect him to be too good against this field.

Ebor Festival Day One Tips: Crack on betting at York

York is the place to be this afternoon, and Tippin' Jimmy will be tipping on every race this week. 

York

1:55 - Orion's Bow (9/1)
I am a big fan of Tim Easterby's handicapper, and now on a falling mark I expect him to return to his best. He was second in the Steward's Cup last year off this mark, and has been unlucky in some runs since. His trainer said he came back coughing after Ascot, which may explain the reason why he only finished fifth. He's been dropped a 1lb and can go well today.

2:25 - Lanksy (8/1) ew
I think Jeremy Noseda has some cracking young horses this year, including this one. He made a very encouraging winning debut at Windsor and despite only winning by much he looks a star in the making. There is some tough opposition, and it is only his second start but he deserves an each-way bet.

3:00 - Cracksman (Evs)
Cracksman is a very short price, but is a Group One horse and should take all the beating here. He ran solid races in the English and Irish Derby and that form works out very strong here. He is still improving and deserves his place here, although there are some improvers if he runs his true race he may prove very difficult to beat.

Barney Roy will bid for a second Group One victory in the Juddmonte International

3:35 - Barney Roy (3/1), Churchill (10/3)
I am very stuck on this race, just like a lot of punters but I just feel Churchill may return to his best here. He was brilliant in his two Guineas win, but struggled in the hot temperatures at Royal Ascot last time out. He hasn't been seen since, but if he can bring his best here then he will be hard to stop. Stepping up from a mile should be fine for him too.

I've backed Barney Roy all year, and I will continue too. He was sensational at Royal Ascot, and was rather unlucky when beaten in the Eclipse. I've heard he's been doing very well at home, and I fully expect him to love the conditions at York. This race will be a thriller.

4:15 - Penglai Pavillion (12/1) , Platitude (8/1) ew
If the best Penglai Pavillion turns up at York, he should win this. However he hasn't raced since April, and may just need the run. His form works out strongly in this handicap, having run well in various Group Ones in Australia last year, and he even finished fifth in the Arc a few years back. He won the Cesarewitch trial last September and faces a 7lb raise. That's fair and he may well have another big handicap win in him,

Platitude could bring back some each-way money for Ryan Moore and Sir Michael Stoute. He attempts this two mile trip for the first time, but has boasted some strong listed form and is dropping down the weights.

4:50 - Tathmeen (15/2) , Etefaaq (18/1)
I was very taken by Tathmeen's performance in a maiden at Newbury, when he won very well by six lengths. That maiden wasn't the strongest but he did it in very good style, and can improve in his first start in handicap company.

Richard Hannon's other runner Etefaaq should go well under Frankie Dettori. He ran a strong race in a Group Two, and despite carrying top weight he may be a bit better than some of these this afternoon.

2:15 Bath - Yafta (5/4)
I really have a lot of time for Yafta, and he should break his maiden in very good style at Bath today. He has been second on his previous two starts. The form of the Newmarket runner-up has worked out very well, and he should be too good here.

3:10 Killarney - Kew Gardens (4/5)
As with a lot of Irish maidens, will the well-bred Ballydoyle colt win second time out. Kew Gardens was seventh on debut but not beaten that far. That effort was promising and if he improves he should live up to high expectations.

4:10 Killarney - Sorelle Delle Rose (3/1)
I backed and tipped this horse a fortnight ago, and I was worried she may have needed the run and I was right. She finished sixth in a more competitive handicap, and should be in better shape for the run. A 1lb drop is a bonus, and she is much better than her handicap mark says.

£5 Best of the rest trixie (£20 total) returns £162.

Tuesday's Best Bets: Shanning set to shine

3:15 Kempton - Ambrosia (8/11)
A beautiful daughter of Frankel s Ambrosia. She is very closely related to Decorated Knight, a multiple Group One winner, and looks to be getting the hangs of things. She posted two good runs as a juvenile, before narrowly losing out at Salisbury last time out. She should break her maiden this afternoon.

5:20 Sligo - Shanning (1/2)
Willie Mullins is an absolute master with these sort of French imports, and I would imagine this is another he can get wins with. Rumours from home are very promising, and if she can live up to expectations then she should be too good for the field here.

7:30 Newton Abbot - Innocent Girl (11/10)
After the saddening news of Neon Wolf's fatal injury, I do hope this nice horse can win for Harry Fry. She has enjoyed some good form without winning this season. Her form is far stronger than everything else in the race, and I would be suprised if she weren't to win this one.

Not the best odds, however a £20 treble returns £100.

Monday's Best Bets: Love set to Conquer Lingfield

After another winner yesterday, Tippin' Jimmy has three fancies from Monday's card.

2:30 Lingfield - Love Conquers (2/1)
This beautifully bred filly for Qatar and Ralph Beckett went very close to breaking her maiden last time out, and should do so in handicap company today. She was defeated by a nose in a tight finish at Newbury, losing out to a nice Godolphin newcomer which William Buick travelled over to ride. She's off a very good mark.

3:45 Thirsk - African Friend (5/2)
Although only his third start, I know that Henry Candy thinks a lot of this horse and will be expecting a big run. He built on a decent maiden effort to win well at Windsor. He didn't win by too much, but the horse he beat by a head has won twice since that run. His form stacks up well, he's improving and should go well off a nice handicap mark.

4:00 Lingfield - Harba (Evs)
One progressive horse is Harba, who can extend his brilliant record at Lingfield this afternoon. He won very well on his penultimate start before following up in similar fashion eight days later. He's had a bit of a break since that run, but should be able to go well again despite a bit of a rise in the weights.

4:40 Roscommon - Himmah NR
I fully expect this horse to break her maiden this afternoon, and I was very taken with her last effort when second to my tipped Ball Girl. That horse is of clear class so there's no shame in a one and three quarter length defeat. She's been second best on her last three starts, today she should go one better.

8:00 Hexham - Rose Tree (11/10)
Following two convincing efforts in bumpers I fully expect Rose Tree to strike for Susan Corbett. She was second to a good horse, before running well again at Towcester. She was well backed on both occasions, and should be able to win this.

Sunday's Best Bets: Lake can Hammer them home

3:10 Southwell - Hammersly Lake
Charlie Longsdon really likes the chances of his nine-year-old in this race, and after encouraging second he can certainly live up to expectations. He's been dropped 2lb and should make a bold bid.

I am a huge fan of this horse, and I really hope she can land a Group One prize after the sad loss of Permian for the Johnston's last week. She was very impressive when winning the Princess Margaret at Ascot a month ago and if she can build on that effort she'll go very well. The track and ground should suit.

3:55 Curragh - Shamreen
Dermot Weld's four-year-old sets a high standard with his Group Two win last year, and despite a below par effort last time could take the beating. He needed the run when last in the race, but should be much better for the outing. If he can return to his best, and with optimum conditions, he could be the one to back.

Saturday's Best Bets: Don't be bad, be Habbad

1:55 Doncaster - Habbad
Tom Marquand and Richard Hannon team up in Yorkshire with Habbad, who has been a tad disappointing this season but could be back to his best today. He was a good nursery winner at the end of last year, but he hasn't built on that promise. He's received another drop in the weights, and today might be the day for him. Discovered is a danger.

2:25 Newbury - Crimean Tatar
Hugo Palmer thinks very highly of this horse and he could be able to return to his best. He wasn't beaten too far in the John Porter Stakes here not too long ago, and in that run figured that an extra furlong could help him out. He hasn't been seen since his disappointing effort in the Yorkshire Cup. He comes back off a break, but could still run a big race.

3:00 Newbury - Sun Lover
One horse who will certainly win off a mark of 89 is Sun Lover. This very well-bred son of Oasis Dream has been unlucky on both starts this season when a runner-up at York and Doncaster. He hasn't been tested on soft ground, but he's experienced good to soft. The more the ground dries out the better.

3:40 Doncaster - Vibrant Chords
I like Henry Candy's horse an awful lot, and I would be hoping he can return to winning ways this afternoon. He didn't run his race at Goodwood, but today's conditions look ideal and he can continue to improve. My only concern is that he is top weight, and as a little horse he may struggle to carry it.

2:40 Newbury - Jumira Prince (13/2)
One horse who will certainly win races is Jumira Prince for Roger Varian. He is brilliantly bred, and still hasn't shown his full potential. He was second last time out at Haydock, but wasn't beaten too far and has only been raised 2lb for that run. He should like today's conditions, and I would expect a big run.

3:40 Dundalk - Duplication (6/4)
One horse who I can't wait to see this horse again after he profited some nice each-way cash last time out. Returning from a 210 day absence, he finished a narrow third at Navan to boost his nice sprinting profile even further. He gets the ideal ground and trip this afternoon, and looks the star in the field.

5:05 Tramore - Potters Point (15/8)
I do think there is a bit more to come from Potters Point for Gordon Elliott, after he ran a solid race at the Galway Festival a fortnight ago. His second place effort was very encouraging, and on that form he is the one to beat here. The less rain they have the better for him.

6:15 Dundalk - Hence (4/7)
I really hope this Ballydoyle two-year-old can win for us, after Nelson did yesterday. Her breeding is exceptional and she has experience too. Her debut was good enough when fifth at the Cork, but she was always going to need that run. She is more than capable of winning a maiden, and today should be that day.

Antepost: Hugo Palmer believes he's Gifted, and he can Master the sprints

Well regarded sprinter Gifted Master should be taken a 33-1 each-way in either Haydock's Sprint Cup or Ascot's Champion Sprint in the final part of the season.

Hugo Palmer’s highly regarded four-year-old is targeting both the Sprint Cup in September, and the Champion Sprint at Ascot the following month after an encouraging win over six furlongs at Doncaster.

He ran most of his races over a longer distance last year, including a second place in the Joel Stakes over a mile, and always looked like a classy horse for the future.

After a decent stint in Dubai, he struggled on his first run back from three months in a competitive Hackwood Stakes at Newbury to finish seventh.

Yet he returned to his best when winning impressively in a conditions contest at Doncaster by three-and-a-half lengths at Doncaster.

Gifted Master finishing second to Cougar Mountain in the Joel Stakes

A horse believed to be top class by his trainer, may now be able to take on the likes of Limato, Harry Angel and Brando in big sprints; especially as he has won on ground ranging from good to form to good to soft.

He has experience at both tracks, Haydock and Ascot, with a victory coming at the latter last April.

Now back to his very best he should be worth backing in both races at a massive 33-1, especially with reports indicating from home that he is a brilliant sprinter in the making.

Bets: Gifted Master each-way Sprint Cup (9 September, Haydock ) at 33-1, Gifted Master each-way Champion Sprint Stakes (21 October, Ascot) at 33-1.

After our trixie landed yesterday for a bumper £355, Tippin' Jimmy is hoping for more profit from Thursday's racing.

2:40 Beverley - Gold Stone (11/8)

After a very promising debut I am expecting Gold Stone to go one better for Kevin Ryan. She finished off well after a poor start to finish second behind a very useful horse. If she improves, and starts better, she should have a really strong chance.

3:40 Beverley - Sevilla (9/4)

Olly Murphy has made a fine introduction to training, and Sevilla deserves to give him a flat winner this afternoon. The four-year-old finished second in a similar event three weeks ago and has been dropped a 1lb for that effort. She can go very close.

4:55 Yarmouth - Whitehall (6/1)

One beautifully bred horse for Sir Michael Stoute is Whitehall. He's up against some top newcomers, but is out of a Group One winner himself and this big imposing colt could be up to winning on debut. You don't know what to get from horses making their first start, but he should go well.

5:45 Chepstow - Native Prospect (7/4)

Andrew Balding's three-year-old ran a strong race at Epsom last time out, and hasn't been moved by the handicapper since that performance. He was beaten by a good horse in Pealer, who has strengthened the form with a second place finish in a good handicap at Ascot. He was well clear of the field that day, and can strike on this mark.

6:35 Leopardstown - Nelson (Evs)

One of Ballydoyle's Frankel colts who will win at maiden level within time, and today should be the day. He is out of Irish Oaks winning Moonstone, so is bred to be very good just as his Group Two declarations indicate. He ran nicely on debut to finish sixth, before improving to finish second last time out at the Curragh. That run was a tad disappointing, and he needs to improve.

8:20 Tramore - Airlie Beach (8/15)

A horse who should have far too much quality in this maiden affair is Airlie Beach for Willie Mullins. A former Grade One winning hurdler, she made a very strong introduction on the flat when third at the Curragh. That race was a lot stronger than this, and it should be very straightforward.

2:20 Salisbury - Rogue (5/2)
One horse who I rate highly is Rogue for Richard Hannon. He's finished fourth on his last three visits to the racecourse, but all of those runs were in more competitive fields than what he will encounter today. Ryan Moore returns on board which is a positive, and he should be able to get off the mark here this afternoon.

3:20 Salisbury - Baashiq (11/2)
Of the four tips this is the one I am least certain about, I like this horse a lot but I was so disappointed by his run at Newbury last time out. He was only fifth, but I do know he is better than that and today he should show that. It's a tough race, but he's on a fair mark and can return to his best.

6:40 Kempton - Quargent (10/11)
Jeremy Noseda has made no secret about his high hopes for his two-year-olds this season, and Quargent may be one he's installed expectations into. He is bred very well, and cost a fair share too. His introductory run was a very competitive Newmarket maiden, so his eighth place finish is nothing to frown at. Three horses in front of him have won since, he should be up to this too.

8:10 Kempton - Mudallel (5/1)
It's only a matter of time before this well-bred Ed Dunlop three-year-old gets his head in front, and I am quietly confident today could be his day. He's still a maiden, and never really built on the promise of his Newmarket debut second. Last time out he ran a great race when beaten narrowly at this track in fourth, and remains on this mark. He's been gelded, is in great form and should go there with a bold chance.

3:00 Thirsk - Nathalie (5/6)
One horse who looks guaranteed as a maiden winner is Nathalie, hopefully her day will be today. She ran a good race when second at Lingfield last time out, running between a pair of very good horses so the form stacks up pretty high. It won't take much more to make a winning appearance at Thirsk.

5:40 Chelmsford - Zalshah (7/1)
One horse who has a consistent record but never won is Zalshah for Richard Hannon. He's run respectable races at Windsor and Lingfield earlier on, but found the Super Sprint a little too hot a month ago. Last time out, on return to the all-weather he went pretty well when second to a good favourite. He has been dropped 1lb, and may now have a winning chance in this.

8:40 Chelmsford - Superioritycomplex (4/7)
Ryan Moore and Sir Michael Stoute team up with this nice three-year-old filly who has finished second best in her last three starts. She lost to some good sorts at Doncaster and Windsor, and today should be the day that everything goes to plan for her.

4:45 Ayr - Weekend Offender (11/4)
I have been waiting what feels like an age for this horse to get his head in front and I do feel this has to be his day. He likes Ayr, and was second here last time out. I know connections rate him highly, they told me, and a mark of 92 may still be winnable for him. Please let this be the day.

5:20 Wolverhampton - Indicia (9/4)
Firstly there is a good favourite here, who could easily win this, but I know that Charlie Hills likes his horse Indicia and she could be up to the challenge this afternoon. She was a promising second on debut, before being sent off a favourite at Ascot last time out. She wasn't beaten that far when fourth, and sets a decent standard. Ryan Moore's mount is a big worry for me.

7:50 Wolverhampton - Flourishing (11/4)
Sir Michael Stoute's improving three-year-old ran well on her handicap debut, and unchanged following that run she can get her second career success. She was an encouraging third at Chester, but connections probably expect more from her. I think she can live up to her promise on the all-weather this afternoon.

2:30 Curragh - Mendelssohn (15/8)

A typical Ballydoyle improver is Mendelssohn, who should come on a lot for his introductory run at the Curragh. He finished eighth that day, but was very green and finished well in the race which was won by The Pentagon. The son of Scat Daddy is bred exceptionally, and he should be up to making a serious challenge in this event.

2:55 Windsor – Regimented (5/6)

One horse who should go very well today is Regimented for Richard Hannon. He was a 25-1 winner on debut, and I think is one who will improve a lot from the run. He faces a big penalty today, but that run was very encouraging and it’s hard not to see him adding a second success in Berkshire this afternoon.

4:00 Windsor – Secret Art (2/1)

I spoke to William Knight, Andrew Balding and Henry Candy about their thoughts ahead of this and the foremost was very confident. So he should be, William Knight’s Sacred Art ran a great race in tough company earlier in the week to finish fifth at Chelmsford and can really prove himself off this mark. I’m worried Angel Down could go and surprise his trainer.

1:05 Ascot - Mirza (6/1)

Despite carrying top weight, Mirza could be able to build on his Sandown second dropped to handicap company. The veteran sprinter chased home star sprinter Battaash in the Group Three Coral Charge and his mark remains unaltered. He goes on most ground, but is likely to get optimum conditions at Ascot this afternoon.

1:40 Ascot - Graceland (11/2)

An improving sort for Michael Bell is Graceland, who faces another hike up the ratings this afternoon. He was a winner at this track back in May, and has been boasting some steady form throughout this season. He has gone up 4lb for his narrow defeat in the Northumberland Vase to London Prize. That form ranks him pretty highly in this.

2:15 Ascot - Kapstadt (9/1)

Ian Jardine is a brilliant dual-purpose trainer, and Kapstadt could increase his reputation at Ascot today. He was a good winner at Newmarket earlier on in the season, before finishing a respectable seventh in the Old Newton Cup at Haydock. That race may have been a bit better than this, and he should be able to make a bold bid.

2:40 Ascot - Early Morning (6/1)

One horse that loves Ascot is Early Morning for Harry Dunlop. He won this contest last year, and has enjoyed some good form since. He finished second in a handicap here, and ran well on his seasonal return at Haydock this year. Last time out he struggled in the Royal Hunt Cup, and in a weaker race he can go well.

Friday's Best Bets: Harbour can be Rock solid at Brighton

2:10 Brighton - Lake Volta (5/4)
Normally a race of unraced two-year-olds is always hard to pick, and it was even worse at Glorious Goodwood with the awful conditions in Sussex. A lot of good horses will come out and win next time out, and I expect that to be the case for Lake Volta. He finished seventh, but is bred well and showed some promise in running. He should show his true colours this afternoon.

3:40 Brighton - Harbour Rock (13/8)
A progressive three-year-old for David Simcock and Qatar Racing is Harbour Rock. He finished a close second at this track last year, before breaking his maiden in impressive style at Goodwood. On his handicap debut, he ran very well to finish second. The speed he finished the race indicated a slightly longer trip would be perfect, he gets that today. Unchanged from that mark, he's got a big chance.

8:10 Newmarket - Waqaas (9/2)
In the closing handicap this nicely-bred Charlie Hills prospect can make a bold claim. He won his maiden well, but found a quality field too good in the Richmond Stakes last year. On his return he only finished midfield in a hot race, and the run should benefit him today. A fitter Waqaas, and a more suitable race could see him back in the winner's enclosure.

Thursday's Best Bets: Sharps is our Choice

3:50 Haydock - Sainted (4/6)

I fancied William Haggas' six-year-old for a Group Three contest at Glorious Goodwood last week, but he could only finish sixth in that contest. She drops down in grade for this one, and although she is carrying a penalty I really fancy her chances. She is way too good here.

5:30 Sligo - Sharps Choice (9/4)

One horse who is continually knocking on the door is Sharps Choice for Willie Mullins. Proven on soft ground, he has looked to be improving when second best once again at Wexford. Today should be his day, with this not being the strongest of contests.

6:00 Wolverhampton - Way Of Wisdom (15/8)

This Godolphin horse is one that I have been watching throughout the season, he won very nicely on debut for Charlie Appleby but hasn't progressed too much since his Newmarket success. He gave De Bruyne Horse too good when giving him 7lb at Ripon, and only finished midfield in a listed contest. I think connections rank him highly, so he should be up to this.

6:55 Newcastle - Cape Bunting (6/4)

Mark Johnston's improving filly took a step back last time, but can bounce back in this contest today. The two-year-old was an impressive winner of two starts, before only finishing seventh in a listed event last time out. It could be the ground, but there is no real reason. She carries a big weight today, which is a worry, but I fancy her chances.

£10 double on Sainted/Sharps Choice returns £54

Antepost: Octave can make it Count in the St Leger

Andrew Balding’s improving Count Octave (20-1) could be ready to fulfill his potential in the final classic of the year, the St Leger in September.

The progressive three-year-old has only seen the racecourse four times, but looks to have the class to win at the top level.

He won his maiden on his second start in good style, clearing a decent Wolverhampton field in encouraging style.

In the Chester Vase he ran on to take fifth in the 1m4f contest which featured Derby winner Wings Of Eagles, but Balding learnt he would be better over a longer trip.

At Royal Ascot, he defied a short break to run on and finish second in the Queens’ Vase, where Stradvarius defeated him by only a neck. John Gosden’s three-year-old has boosted the form by winning the Group One Goodwood Cup on his next start.

Andrew Balding' sole classic success came with Casual Look's victory in the 2003 Oaks

Count Octave is progressing and certainly has the quality to take a big race like the St Leger, and no one can doubt his capabilities over the 1m6f trip.

The Qatar-owned horse is ticking all the right boxes for the Britain’s oldest classic, and his big price could be worth snapping up before he faces a prep run for Doncaster.

Elsewhere in the race former Royal Lodge winner Best Of Days (50-1), could be an each-way bet for the race.

He enjoyed some top form as juvenile, most notably winning the Group Two Royal Lodge. However he failed to make it to the Derby, as he suffered an injury in the early part of the season.

He didn't beat a rival on return from Royal Ascot, and was a bit disappointing on unfavourable soft ground at Newbury last time out. He is clearly better than that, and has the potential to go well in the final classic of the season

Count Octave is best priced at 20-1 to win the St Leger Stakes, and Best Of Days is our each-way selection at 50-1 for Doncaster's classic on the 16th September.

Wednesday's Best Bets: Mutineer is crystal clear

2:10 Pontefract - Bollin Ted (6/4)
Tim Easterby's Bollin Ted is bidding for a hat-trick and faces a 6lb hike up the weights this afternoon. He was awarded the race in the end, but he seems to be an improving type and can continue to improve.

4:30 Bath - Mordoree (7/2)
I have no doubt this horse is much better than his mark of 60 suggests, and I hope he can record a second successive victory at Bath this afternoon. He won quite easily at Nottingham last time out, and a 5lb raise is fair for him.

6:05 Kempton - Mutineer (5/1)
After a solid effort at Wolverhampton last time out, I think Daniel Kubler's three-year-old was very unlucky last time out and should go one better today. This race doesn't look as competitive on paper, and he remains unchanged by the handicapper. He likes the track, and all the signs are positive for him.

6:35 Kempton – Jus Pires (7/4)
A son of supersire Scat Daddy is Jus Pires, who should relish switching to the all-weather. He struggled on soft ground on debut, before narrowly losing out at Windsor last time out. He is bred very well, and should continue improving. This is a competitive maiden, but I expect a good performance.

9:05 Kempton - Maghfoor (3/1)

One Godolphin horse who looks to be one to strike on this handicap mark is Maghfoor. His maiden form has worked out very strong; Weekender, who beat him narrowly, has enjoyed Newmarket handicap victory since. Elsewhere the horses he beat in his sole victory, Humble Hero and Bristol Missile, have gone on to win since. Last time out he didn't beat a rival, and I am expecting him to bounce back.

Lucky 15 (Maghfoor/Jus Pires/Mutineer/Mordoree)

5:40 Roscommon - Ball Girl (11/8)
This expensive purchase made a massively encouraging debut, and should be able to go on better from that run. The two-year-old was only defeated half-a-length on her Gowran Park introductory run, despite being green in the race. She'll improve loads from the outing, and is the one to go one better.

6:20 Chelmsford - Mail Order (8/1)
Mark Johnston seems to have his yard in good form at the minute, and he could continue that with this nicely bred maiden this evening. A daughter to Moyglare winner Mail The Desert, he ran a fine effort on debut to finish fifth at Ffos Las. He can do much better than that, and will be helped by some of the penalties in the race. She needs to improve a lot, to beat some experienced rivals and winners here.

6:30 Cork - Sorelle Delle Rose (4/1)
After two very pleasing efforts for Dermot Weld, this nice prospect could be the one on her handicap debut. The full-sister to Sovereign Debt finished third on debut, before landing her maiden in a stylish fashion. The form of that race is quite strong, but it was the manner in which she won that made her look like more of a pattern horse. She hasn't been seen since April, but if she can run her race, then she'll have a huge chance.

7:35 Nottingham - Jumira Prince (2/1)
One horse with a huge amount of scope is Jumira Prince for Roger Varian. He's bred beautifully and has been running well in handicaps, and gradually improving. Last time out he ran pretty well, but was just beaten in the final few strides. He's got the pedigree to go a lot better than today's mark of 76, and this former course winner should go well.

2:25 Curragh – Nelson (4/6)
He’s not the biggest price, but he can do your accumulators some favours in the opener. This is another very good Ballydoyle horse, who made a good debut effort when sixth at Leopardstown and should improve a lot. He’s bred exceptionally, and the Coolmore team must be excited to see this son to Irish Oaks winning Moonstone get on track.

2:30 Sailsbury - Bullingdon (7/2)
After a fine effort at Newbury, I do think Bullingdon has the class to win this maiden event for Richard Hannon. He was third at Newbury, finishing half-a-length off a well-regarded Oliver Reed. He will improve a lot, and I think he can run a big race.

3:55 Curragh – Conversely (4/1)
This name sticks out in my mind, as he’s been backed into a very short price in his last two starts but could only finish second in maiden company. Those runs are pretty smart, and the winners may pan out to be quite good in the future. With his form, he’s the one to beat.

4:15 Redcar – Pete So High (6/1)
Richard Hannon’s nice three-year-old looks to have a strong chance here, and take advantage of a falling handicap mark. He was a winner of a good maiden back in January, but has struggled when tested over longer trips. This looks his optimum distance, and his Bath third has worked out very well since (second won by seven lengths on next start, fourth won by one). With star jockey Silvestre De Sousa on board, he could go very close.

Sunday's Best Bets: Cotai can return to Glory at Chester

After just being touched off a 28-1 winner in the Stewards Cup, Tippin' Jimmy gives his verdict across Sunday's card.

2:45 Deauville (FRA) – Caravaggio (5/4)

I really believe Caravaggio is something quite special, the way he won at Ascot was absolutely awesome and I think I’ll struggle to look past him for a while now. The July Cup just didn’t go right, but he is the class horse in this race and I fully expect him to go out there and stamp his class on the race.

2:55 Dusseldorf (GER) – Wuheida (11/10)

Charlie Appleby has got a classy filly on her hands, and I do think she is the one to beat in the German Oaks. She won both starts of a juvenile, and returned from injury to chase home Roly Poly in the Falmouth. That run is massively encouraging, and she looks the best in the race by a bit.

3:40 Chester – Navarone (5/1)

Richard Fahey’s four-year-old was an encouraging winner back at Beverley a few starts ago, and has been in good form since that victory. He ran a great race to finish second at Ayr, before a tad below-par when fourth on return to Beverley. That was a good race, and he should be better than that performance. His draw isn’t ideal, but if he breaks well he has a strong chance.

4:15 Chester – Cotai Glory (9/4)

I am a big fan of this horse, and I do think today’s test will see how good he is. He’s run some good races over five furlongs, finishing midfield in the big races over the middle distance. Charlie Hills’ five-year-old steps up to six today, but that may help him out. He’s drawn well, and has a huge chance.

Saturday's Best Bets: Six Strings the tune at Glorious Goodwood

Tippin’ Jimmy gives us his verdict on Saturday’s card, featuring the last day of Glorious Goodwood.

1:50 Goodwood – Six Strings (12/1)
I was quite taken by this horse’s performance in Scotland last month, and he looks like one who is going the right way. He’s quite consistent, and has always run good races in handicap company. He is definitely better than his mark suggests, and I expect him to run a huge race. The ground is a little worry, as is the draw.

2:25 Goodwood – Mainstream (7/1)
Ryan Moore and Sir Michael Stoute team up with Mainstream, who is getting so close to winning at a big meeting but not there quite yet. He was last seen finishing a promising second to York, and that form is pretty strong in this. The extra two furlongs should help, and I imagine he can run well on the ground too.

2:40 Newmarket – Tig Tog (8/1)
One horse who will have her day within time is Tig Tog for Richard Hannon. She showed plenty of class when fourth in a decent maiden at Doncaster, and is given a nice handy mark for her handicap debut. There’s more to come from her.

3:00 Goodwood – Crystal Ocean (11/8)
In this tight little race there is not very much between Crystal Ocean and Khalidi, but I just have a feeling Sir Micheal Stoute’s runner has a good win in him this season. His Dante and Royal Ascot runs were both pretty strong, and he will be expected to win now eased into Group Three company.

There is a lot for Richard Fahey to look forward to with Northwest Frontier

3:25 Thirsk - Northwest Frontier (4/1)
A son of Galileo, he looks to be progressing nicely for Richard Fahey and has strong claims in this. He won well on his second start to break his maiden, before struggling with a lack of pace at Hamilton last time. Optimum conditions will see him back to his best.

3:35 Goodwood – Aeolus (28/1) ew, Donjuan Triumphant (20/1) ew
One that has slipped off the radar a little is Aeolus for Ed Walker, who hasn’t been running too badly this season. He’s a horse who likes today’s conditions, is drawn well, and is on the good side of the handicap. He was last seen losing out narrowly in a Group Three contest, and hasn’t been changed by the handicapper for that effort.

Donjuan Triumphant has been lowered 4lb by the handicapper following his third place finish at Leicester last time out. Andrew Balding’s s four-year-old was beaten by seven lengths by Tasleet and Home Of The Brave, which is fair considering the pairs recent form. He will relish the conditions, but has a tough draw.

3:55 Doncaster – Gifted Master (5/2)
A sprinter who has plenty of quality is Hugo Palmer’s Gifted Master. On a return from a stint in the UAE, he ran okay in the Hackwood at Newbury and would’ve benefited from the run. He is dropped into an easier field here, but will need to show his best. A good run, should be enough.

4:10 Goodwood – Bathsheba Bay (15/8)
The maidens at Goodwood have shown a few odd winners throughout the week, but this horse does look to have a great chance here. Ridden by Ryan Moore, and trained by Richard Hannon, he ran a great race at Sandown last time out, and was unlucky to be narrowly defeated. That form is the best on offer here.

4:45 Goodwood – Mazyoun (9/1)
I like the chances of both of Hugo Palmer’s horses in this, but Mazyoun gets the verdict. He is got a terrific riding weight, which includes a 5lb claimer with the talented David Egan. He may want the ground to have dried up in the afternoon, but he is a consistent performer and should go well under this low weight.

5:20 Goodwood - Spring Offensive (12/1)
Ideally this horse needs to be dropped a few pounds to be very dangerous, but he does have nice each-way claims on this mark. He's drawn okay, and should handle the ground. It isn't the toughest of handicaps and he should go well.

5:35 Doncaster – Qatari Riyals (5/1)
A horse that should appreciate the return to five is Qatari Riyals. With a valuable 3lb taken off her back, she can go here with a strong chance after a string of good efforts this season. She has the speed to win a race like this.

Glorious Goodwood Day Four: Our trixie can give you a Profitable afternoon

Tippin’ Jimmy runs us through Friday’s racing, which features day four of Glorious Goodwood.

1:50 Goodwood – Poet's Word (3/1) , Crimean Tatar (20/1) ew

The ground is a complete unknown for Poet's Word, but he is a very nice horse who looks to be going the right way. He was last seen when beaten by a neck in a similar race, where Aidan O'Brien's Deauville got the better of him. He looks progressive and should run well.

I know Hugo Palmer thinks an awful lot of Crimean Tatar, thinking he would turn out to be a pretty good stayer. He only runs in a middle distance event, but does deserve his place. His first run of the season at Newbury was pretty solid, but things just didn’t fall his way in the Yorkshire Cup last time out.

2:25 Goodwood – Make Time (3/1)

One horse who is certainly going the right way is Make Time for David Menuisier. He has winning experience on today’s ground, and was formerly thought of to be a 2000 Guineas contender. He didn’t run his race in a hot Greenham Stakes, and the team had to look elsewhere. He stamped his class when winning in handicap company at Sandown last month, and can go well again.

3:00 Goodwood – Blair House (11/2) , Birchwood (20/1) ew

I was very taken with Blair House’s performance at Royal Ascot. He’s another who should be okay on today’s ground. The Godolphin three-year-old defied an absence to run on and take second in the Royal Hunt Cup, and I fully expect him to improve from that run for Charlie Appleby. Whatever happens with the weather, he should be fine.

Birchwood is another selection for the Godolphin team, and he brings a bit of class to the race despite his handler Richard Fahey struggling to find the right race for him. A former listed winner on today’s going, he was last seen finishing midfield in the Wokingham and steps up to a mile. Reports from home indicate he is doing well, and he will win one of these.

3:35 Goodwood – Profitable (5/2)

Last year I was a big Profitable fan, and I do think he can return to his best in Sussex today. He has experience on all ground, and seems to be in good form too. He was last seen chasing home the brilliant Lady Aurelia when second at Royal Ascot. That form stacks up quite well here, and I expect a big run from Clive Cox’s five-year-old.

4:10 Goodwood – Gift In Time (5/1) , Quayside ew (8/1)

James Given’s Gift In Time has looked like a nice horse so far this season. He ran an exceptional race on debut to finish second, to then head to Ascot where he only defeated two rivals. He returned to his best at Chester last time out, finishing well to win over five furlongs. He only won by a neck, but faced little room, and could be much more suited to today’s trip. He handled soft on debut too.

I like both of Richard Fahey’s chances in this, but my strongest chance is certainly Quayside. He looks progressive, and has been given a nice low weight. On his penultimate start he broke his maiden on the third time of asking, and looked to do that in quite professional style. Last time out he stumbled out of the stalls and that blew his chances. He deserves more luck today.

4:40 Goodwood - Sainted (8/1)

William Haggas and Jim Crowley team up with Sainted, who will absolutely love today’s conditions. She’s a progressive looking filly, winning three starts from four, and was last seen powering clear in handicap company on her seasonal bow at York. That wasn’t the strongest of races, but she did it in fine style and should improve from the outing. She’s won on heavy and soft, and I expect a bold performance.

5:15 Goodwood – Tuff Rock (16/1) ew

Tuff Rock deserves an each-way chance following his maiden victory at this track a month ago. He didn’t win by too much that day, but has a lot of potential to go and continue improving for Ed Walker.

Glorious Goodwood Day Three: Can Winter brave the weather

An improving prospect in the making for Sir Michael Stoute is Frontispiece, who disappointed when sent off a hot favourite at Sandown last week. He had previously won both starts in good style, but could only finish third. He's a Shamardal, so should appreciate the slower ground and has been gifted a low weight. The only concern is his wide stall.

Hold Sway is another who will appreciate the ground. A good to soft winner on his penultimate start, he has been in good form this season, and should give a good account of himself.

2:10 Nottingham - Mother Of Dragons (7/4)
Prior to the Super Sprint at Newbury, trainer Joseph Tuite spoke really highly of this horse. I think they are expecting her to go on a win a few races, and a maiden win seems straightforward. Newcomers are always a danger, but she sets a very high standard.

2:25 Goodwood - Endless Time (10/3)
Endless Time is not only really good mare, but she will love the ground and should take all the beating. Her Lancashire Oaks win on soft, or Prix Royal-Oak second on good to soft sets a very high standard. She didn't stay in the Gold Cup, but was a very close fourth in the Yorkshire Cup the time before.

3:00 Goodwood - Nebo (7/2)
The Richmond looks to have a pretty good field once again, and I am siding with Nebo for Charlie Hills. He is clearly a capable horse after finishing second to Gustav Klimt at Newmarket, and that form is very promising on these terms. He won his debut on soft, and should be able to handle today's conditions much better than his rivals. I am expecting a big run.

3:35 Goodwood - Winter (6/4), Sobetsu (6/1) ew
Winter is the star horse in the race, and has shown her elite level of quality consistently this season. For me, it's a case of getting the ground; I strongly believe if she handles the conditions then she wins.

If Winter doesn't I will be looking for the Godolphin colours of Sobetsu, one who will relish the wet ground and is a Group One winner over today's trip.

4:10 Goodwood - Billesdon Brook (9/2), Tangled (7/1) ew
Billesdon Brook ran a great race when winning her maiden, and then went on to finish third in a listed contest. She is one that should go well on the ground, and sets a good standard.

Another for Richard Hannon is Tangled, who was a very impressive winner last time out. He has been raised 11lb, but I expect a bold show.

4:45 Goodwood - Magical (8/13) NAP, Ann Without An E (22/1) ew
Ballydoyle's Magical may just be that and is a worthy favourite here this afternoon. She enjoyed an excellent debut when second to an experienced rival at the Curragh, and the debut form from that race will work out strongly. She has the pedigree to be a superstar, and should enjoy breaking her maiden today.

Ann Without An E can fare best of the newcomers for Mick Channon, He's bred pretty well, and pedigree indicates he should be okay on today's conditions.

5:20 Goodwood - Megan Lilly (10/1), Poet's Society (12/1) ew
Megan Lilly is one that will certainly relish the conditions at Goodwood this afternoon, but also has plenty of talent. She won a similar affair at Chester last month, but has been beaten well on her last two starts. She is only 2lb higher than that win, and can take advantage of the soft ground.

Poet's Society is another who will enjoy today's conditions. His last win came at Newmarket on good to soft, but he has run well on softer before. His recent form has been a tad disappointing, but he should run better today.

7:15 Ffos Las - Alaadel (4/1)
Despite finishing my day's duties at Goodwood soaked and muddy, I did realise that the weather would help this one out a lot. Alaadel is a really nice progressive horse, who won on heavy ground on his maiden. Ffos Las is expected to be soft, which should suit. He has been disapointed since winning his maiden, but I am expecting today's ground to bring back the best of him.

7:30 Epsom - Coral Sea (3/1)
I backed this horse at Doncaster last time out, and he finished fifth when getting a very poor passage from the back. When he did find space he picked up well, so I am sticking with him today. He will like most ground, and should be good on the track. The only issue is the step up to seven is an unknown, but I do think he can handle it.
